Using RS232 to control devices is a common method in system integration for remote control. However, when certain devices (such as projectors and DVD players) lack RS232 ports, an alternative solution is to use an environmental control system paired with IR signal control devices.
For example, in SC&T’s in-house conference room control system, when integrating cameras into the control system via an over-IP setup, the pre-configured control signals within the system can be transmitted via IP to the over-IP equipment. The IP equipment, in turn, sends signals to the connected IR transmitter, which then controls the projector’s power functions.

A KVM extender installed at the display end receives IR signals from the user and transmits them to the device end via network cables or fiber optics.
