Industry Landscape in 2023 by AVIXA™

Analyzing the industry status in 2023, we drew insights from AVIXA™'s annual analysis. It primarily focuses on two key indicators:

• The Pro AV Sales Index (AVI-S)

• The AV Employment Index (AVI-E)

Standards

AVIXA™'s report follows the following standards:

• The index only includes responses from service providers who have a certain level of understanding about their own company's business conditions.
• There are two indices: the AV Sales Index and the AV Employment Index, both expressed as percentages to indicate changes in company activities.
• The indices are updated monthly and compared to the previous month. A higher index indicates increased company activity, while a lower index signifies reduced activity. The baseline value is set at 50; if it remains at 50, it indicates a market with no increase or decrease compared to the previous period.
• This study does not represent market revenue but rather illustrates the growth and decline trends of AV-related businesses.

Last year's Professional AV Sales Index (AVI-S) increased by 3.5 points, reaching 60.4 at the end of 2023. This is comparable to the 61.2 in December 2022.

Two Review Approaches

This article introduces two methods for reviewing: one calculates the average level over the entire year's 12 months, and the other uses the year-end net question (same as the monthly index question but comparing the past two years instead of the past two months). The article prefers the latter as it provides a net measurement, whereas the averaging method may overlook scale (for example, growing 5% over nine months and 20% over three months may appear positive on average but the net looks negative).

Conclusion

Hence, this article compiles the outcomes of both methods, highlighting that 2023 was a solid yet not as favorable year as 2022. The monthly average index is 58.8, marking the lowest point in a year (excluding 2020) but exhibiting a modest deviation from pre-pandemic years. In the article's favored annual net comparison, the index records 67.1. Although significantly lower than 2022's 72.5, it closely aligns with 2021's 67.9. Collectively, these findings portray 2023 as a positive but not exceptional year.
